History

The School of Environmental Science and Engineering was established in 2010. It is the school actively responding to the national and Jiangsu provincial government’s development strategies of coastal, and meeting the needs of the local economic construction and industry development.

Education

The school consists of 3 undergraduate programs: environmental engineering, environmental science and environment protection equipment engineering. The major of Environmental Engineering began to enroll students in 2000, and more than 900 students are in school at present. Environmental Engineering is a construction point of National First-Class Undergraduate Major, it’s a brand major in Jiangsu universities, and a brand major integrating industry and education in Jiangsu Province, it has passed the Professional Certification of engineering education in China. The major of Environmental Protection Equipment Engineering is a first-class undergraduate major construction point of Jiangsu Province. The school now has a master's degree program in Environmental Science and Engineering, a master's degree program in Resources and Environment. The Project of " Key Technologies and Applications of Environmental Pollution Health Risk Detection, Control and Emergency Response" won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2023, and the citations of published literature in the field of Environment and Ecology ranked in the top 1% of ESI in the world, which has a certain influence at home and abroad.

The school has lab area of over 4000 square meters, equipment total value over 20 million RMB, and has practice education center of Jiangsu universities’ coastal environmental monitoring and pollution control project.

Research and disciplines constructions

In the aspect of scientific research and disciplines constructions, the school has advantages and features of the wetland ecological environment protection, water environment treatment, exhaust gas treatment, and environmental assessment.

It has over 65 staff members, including 59 full-time teachers, 29 senior professional title personnel, 28 master supervisors, 90% of the full-time teachers have a doctor's degree. There are 15 provincial talents such as the Provincial Double-Innovation Plan Talents, the Provincial Jilan Project Series, and 22 Provincial Deputy General Managers of Science and Technology. It has the excellent scientific and technological innovation teams of Jiangsu Provincial colleges and universities, the excellent scientific and technological innovation teams of Jiangsu Province "Blue Project" and the excellent teaching teams of Jiangsu Province "Blue Project".

The school has rich scientific research achievements, and has undertaken more than 30 research projects such as National Key Research and Development Programs and National Natural Science Foundation, some research achievements have reached the domestic leading level. The school has won more than 10 provincial research awards,  The school's annual research funding is about 15 million yuan, with over 100 high-level research papers published and over 20 invention patents granted annually.

In terms of enterprise cooperation, the school attaches great importance to the manufacture-learning- research cooperation, efforts to improve the level of technology service, and construction project environmental impact assessment and cleaner production audit qualification, operating pollution facility qualification and environmental facilities construction qualifications, etc. The scientific research funding is more than 11 million RMB provided by industries.

International collaboration and communication

Six teachers have more than one year experience of overseas study. For study communication, some students have continued their study with international universities such as University of Detroit, Leeds  University and Gdansk University of Technology for bachelor and master degrees.
