Author:    Source:    release time: 2025-01-09

The School of Electrical Engineering is a venerable secondary school with a long educational history. Originally founded as the Department of Electrical Engineering in 1988, it initiated undergraduate admissions in 1997, and in 2000, it was elevated to the School of Electrical and Information Engineering. Subsequently, in 2008, the school underwent a name change to become the School of Electrical Engineering. In 2021, it was approved to grant master’s degrees.

The School consists of five departments: Electrical Engineering and Automation, Automation, Building Electrical and Intelligence, New Energy Science and Engineering, and Intelligent Equipment and Systems, along with an Electrical and Electronic Teaching Section, Electrical and New Energy Experimental Center, and Electrical and Electronic Experimental Center. It operates a Ministry of Education-approved Sino-foreign cooperative education program with the University of Greenwich, UK. Currently, the School has 1,830 full-time undergraduate students and 144 graduate students. The laboratory area covers 6,290 square meters, with fixed assets valued at 30.063 million yuan.

The School currently has 86 faculty and staff members, including 72 full-time teachers, among whom are 11 professors, 32 PhDs, 17 master's supervisors, and 11 part-time master's supervisors. There are 2 specially appointed professors and 12 adjunct professors. Fifteen faculty members are included in provincial talent programs such as "333 Project," "Blue Project," and "Six Talent Peak."

The School maintains a teaching-centered approach, emphasizing professional development, strengthening teaching management, and deepening educational reform. In collaboration with local government and leading new energy enterprises, it has established the New Energy School, which has been approved as a construction site of the national-level school of industry-education integration. The Electrical Engineering and Automation major is a national first-class major construction site, a provincial-level key major, and a provincial brand major of higher education institutions. The Automation major is a provincial first-class undergraduate major and provincial "Excellence Plan" major. The New Energy Science and Engineering major is a provincial first-class undergraduate major construction site. Both the Electrical and New Energy Experimental Center and the Electrical and Electronic Experimental Center are provincial-level experimental demonstration centers. The School offers 2 provincial first-class undergraduate courses and 4 provincial key textbooks.

The School adheres rigorously to the principles of "broadening foundation, strengthening application, emphasizing practice, and overall optimization" in developing its training programs. It persistently refreshes teaching materials and innovates pedagogical approaches, which has led to a consistent rise in the quality of talent development. Our student representative teams have secured the top prize in the national “Challenge Cup” academic and scientific competition, as well as special and first-place awards in various national competitions, including Mathematical Modeling, Intelligent Vehicle, Electronic Design, the “Siemens Cup” China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge, and the Intelligent Building Engineering Practice Skills contest. In the past five years, the employment contract rate for graduates has surpassed 95%, with approximately half of the graduates working in the coastal power industry in Jiangsu. In the past three years, the graduate admission rate has reached 30%.

The School proactively aligns with the development requirements of Jiangsu’s coastal regions, local economic construction, and the new energy industry. It bolsters industry-academia-research collaboration and fortifies its disciplinary framework and scientific research capabilities. The School offers a Master’s program in Energy and Power (with a focus on Electrical Engineering) and has cultivated a university-designated key discipline. It has established a provincial-level engineering research center for new energy equipment electrical systems, a municipal-level engineering technology research center for electrical and new energy, and four university-level research institutes in new energy generation technology, intelligent systems and control, advanced energy storage technology and applications, and system science and technology. Seven provincial-level graduate workstations have been jointly established with enterprises. In the past five years, the School has been awarded 10 national-level projects including National Natural Science Foundation projects, 32 provincial-level projects; and 37 provincial and municipal science and technology awards, including 2 Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Awards. It has published more than 110 papers in SCI/EI-indexed journals and obtained 62 invention patents, with 34 patents successfully transferred.

The School has always adhered to the university motto "Studious, Inquiring, Virtuous, Practical" as its guiding principle. In line with the university’s 14th Five-Year Plan development strategy, the School concentrates on talent cultivation and seeks integrated development with industry and regional demands, aiming to become a premier training ground for high-quality, applied senior engineering and technical professionals in the electrical and new energy sectors for the coastal regions of Jiangsu.
