The School of Automotive Engineering

In response to the implementation of the coastal development strategy by the national and Jiangsu provincial governments, and to meet the development needs of the local automobile pillar industry in Yancheng, the School of Automobile Engineering was established in June 2010. The school continuously strengthens the cooperation among government, industry, academia and research, carries out the reform in the “integration between industry and education” talent training mode, strengthens the foundation and connotation construction of disciplines and majors, and cultivates high-level applied specialists in the automobile industry.

In 2022, the school was approved as Jiangsu Provincial Industry College - Yancheng Yueda New Energy Automobile College. It currently offers four undergraduate programs: Vehicle Engineering, New Energy Vehicle Engineering, Energy and Power Engineering, and Automotive Service Engineering. Among them, Vehicle Engineering is a key discipline supported by Jiangsu Province’s “14th Five-Year Plan” and a provincial-level key program. It has one master’s degree authorization point of first-level discipline: Intelligent Science and Technology, and two master’s degree authorizations in Mechanical Engineering(Vehicle Engineering) and Transportation.

The school has 1485 full-time general undergraduate students and 101 graduate students. There are 63 teaching staff members, including 50 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 18 hold senior professional titles, 31 have doctoral degrees, 13 are full-time or part-time postgraduate supervisors, and 6 have been selected for “provincial 333 Project”, “Blue Project” and “Six Talent Peak”. There are also 17 part-time teachers from other institutions and enterprises.

The school has excellent teaching and research experimental conditions, with 25 automotive professional laboratories covering a total area of 4,138 square meters, 929 sets of equipment worth 25.16 million yuan. Additionally, it has established 27 off-campus internship bases in collaboration with automotive companies such as Yueda Kia Motors Co., Ltd. and CATARC Automotive Proving Ground Co., Ltd.

The school places high importance on undergraduate education and has achieved significant teaching results in recent years. It has won 10 teaching achievement awards at or above the university level, including one national second-prize and five provincial awards. The school has received approval for 11 course construction projects at or above the university level, including one national-level excellent online open course and one national-level first-class online course. The faculty members have led 64 teaching reform research projects at or above the university level, including 18 teaching reform projects of the Ministry of Education and 3 provincial reform projects. In 2024, two new projects were approved under the Ministry of Education’s Supply and Demand Docking and Employment Nurturing Project. Furthermore, teachers have published 15 textbooks as chief editors (including 7 provincial key textbooks), contributed to editing of 8 textbooks, published 56 educational research papers, and participated in various kinds of teaching competitions, and won 19 prizes at school level or above.

The school has achieved remarkable results in student development, with initial employment rates for undergraduates exceeding 85% and year-end employment rates above 92% for the past three years. The school emphasizes the development of students’ practical innovation abilities, featuring “industry-education integration and learning through competition” as its characteristic, and has established the nationally influential college student formula racing team - the Mustang Team. In recent years, faculty-guided undergraduate students have won 55 national awards and 76 provincial awards in discipline competitions; undertaken 12 national-level and 34 provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship training projects; published 21 journal papers as first authors; and obtained 11 patents as first inventors. The Postgraduates have published 77 papers, including 45 EI/SCI-indexed papers, obtained 55 invention patents, and won 26 awards in disciplinary competitions.
