The School of Economics and Management

The School of Economics and Management traces its history to the Department of Management Engineering at Yancheng Industrial College and the Department of Economics and Management at Yancheng Vocational College. In May 1996, after the State Education Commission approved the merger of the two colleges to establish Yancheng Institute of Technology, the two departments merged to form the Department of Business Administration in December. In March 2000, the Jiangsu Provincial Government approved the incorporation of Yancheng Accounting College into Yancheng Institute of Technology, merging with the Department of Business Administration to form the School of Business Administration. In August 2004, it was renamed the School of Economics and Management. In December 2014, the school split into two: the School of Management and the School of Economics. In November 2017, these two schools merged again to form the School of Economics and Management.

The school currently has 6 departments: Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, International Economics and Trade, Emergency and Logistics Management, and Information Management and E-commerce. It offers 10 undergraduate programs: Information Management and Information Systems, E-commerce, Logistics Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, Financial Management, Financial Engineering, International Economics and Trade, and Emergency Management. Among these, the Management Science and Engineering is a Provincial-Level Key Discipline, while the Financial Management and Finance are recognized as Provincial-Level First Class Majors, and the Business Administration is a School-Level Key Discipline. The school offers master’s degrees in Professional Accounting (MPAcc) and Transportation (Transportation Planning and Management). As of 2022, there were 2,752 full-time undergraduate students.

The faculty consists of 105 staff members, including 17 professors, 47 associate professors, 42 PhD holders (including 11 doctoral candidates), and 95 staff members with master’s degrees or above, accounting for 90% of the total faculty. The school has 7 outstanding talents from Jiangsu Province’s “333 Project,” “Blue Project,” and “Six Talent Peak Program,” 1 outstanding talent from Yancheng City’s “New Century 111 Project,” and over 40 “dual-qualified” teachers. The school has also appointed 20 adjunct professors from renowned domestic and international universities. In the past 5 years, the school has collaborated with Jiangsu University, Anhui University of Science and Technology, and Ambo University in Ethiopia to train graduate students, with 15 master’s supervisors and 1 doctoral supervisor.

The school currently has 1 provincial-level demonstration experimental construction center, 14 laboratories including Accounting Comprehensive Laboratory, Management Science Basic Laboratory, Enterprise Intelligent Cloud Service Simulation Laboratory, Big Data Analysis and Application Laboratory, E-commerce Laboratory, and Financial Investment and Risk Management Laboratory, 2 intelligent cloud data centers, and 41 various databases and educational research software. The school is also home to 6 research institutions: Jiangsu Institute of Science and Technology Finance, Management Information Systems Research Center, Modern Port Logistics Center, Enterprise Development Strategy Research Center, New Business Model Research Center, and Public Management Research Center.

The faculty team is vibrant and dynamic, with over 20 teachers having studied or conducted research at universities such as Durham University, UC Berkeley, McMaster University, and the University of Birmingham, bringing broad perspectives and active thinking. A group of young and middle-aged PhDs demonstrates strong innovation spirit and research capabilities. In the past 5 years, faculty members have undertaken over 200 vertical and horizontal research projects, including 2 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 4 National Social Science Foundation projects, 2 Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences projects, 1 Ministry of Science and Technology 863 Spark Program project, 10 National Bureau of Statistics projects, 4 Jiangsu Provincial Social Science Foundation projects, and over 20 Provincial Education Department Higher Education Social Science Foundation projects. The school has secured research funding of over 6 million yuan, won 4 provincial-level and above research awards, and over 40 city (department)-level research awards. Faculty members have published over 400 papers, including over 100 high-level papers in domestic and international key journals and core journals, and published 18 monographs.

The school focuses on developing students’ employment competitiveness and deepening educational reform, with the Financial Management program successfully recognized as a Provincial-Level First Class Major. In the past 5 years, faculty members have published over 50 papers on teaching reform research; completed over 30 provincial-level and above teaching reform projects; received approval for 1 provincial-level excellent online open course; established 1 provincial-level offline first-class course; and received 5 Jiangsu Provincial key textbook construction projects. The school has compiled and published 23 textbooks including Financial Management Theory and Practice, Marketing Theory and Practice, Consumer Behavior, Fundamentals of Accounting, Advanced Financial Accounting, and Production and Operations Management. The school has won one second prize in the National University Micro-course Teaching Competition, one first prize, three second prizes, and one third prize in the Jiangsu Province University Micro-course Teaching Competition.

Students have published nearly 30 papers in provincial-level and above journals; undertaken nearly 40 provincial-level and above university student innovation training projects, including 9 provincial key projects; and won over 90 provincial-level and above awards in discipline competitions. Notable achievements include the “Benefiting People’s Livelihood, Tianyi ActionTianci Field Public Welfare Poverty Alleviation” project winning the silver award in the Jiangsu Province “Creating Youth” Selection Competition and the bronze award in the National College Students’ Entrepreneurship Competition. In the National College E-commerce Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, students won 1 national third prize, 2 provincial first prizes, 1 second prize, and multiple third prizes. Students have received 11 Jiangsu Province Outstanding Undergraduate Graduation Design (Thesis) Awards, including 1 second prize and 10 third prizes. In the school’s comprehensive teaching quality evaluation, the college ranks at the top in teaching work, graduation design (thesis) work, teaching research work, and teaching and learning style construction, winning multiple first, second, and third prizes in comprehensive teaching work.

The school adheres to the motto “Studious, Inquiring, Virtuous, Practical” as its guiding principle. Following the school’s “14th Five-Year” development strategy, it maintains teaching as its central focus, serves local economic and social development as its mission, and emphasizes improving teaching quality as its foundation. With academic innovation as its driving force and talent cultivation as its core, the school strives to establish itself through teaching, strengthen itself through research, and develop itself through disciplines. It aims to build a high-quality teaching and social service system, promote sustainable and healthy development, and create new prospects for the future.
