The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Yancheng Institute of Technology, originally established as the School of Humanities in January 2003, currently offers a professional master’s program in International Chinese Education and three undergraduate programs: Chinese Language and Literature, Tourism Management, and Hotel Management (suspended for enrollment in Fall 2024). The School has 51 faculty members, including 6 professors, 22 associate professors, and 30 faculty members with doctoral degrees (including those pursuing doctoral degrees), with 1,293 full-time undergraduate students.
The School maintains a student-centered approach and continuously improves the quality of talent cultivation. The Chinese Language and Literature program has been approved as a Jiangsu Provincial First-Class Construction Program and has two provincial-level first-class courses. Tourism Management is a university-level key discipline. In recent years, faculty members have published 5 textbooks including Introduction to Tourism and Appreciation of Tourism Poetry and Literature, undertaken over 30 research projects at various levels including 5 National Social Science Foundation projects. Under faculty guidance, students have won the Special Prize in Jiangsu Province and Third Prize nationally in the “Challenge Cup” National College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition (Red Theme Special Track), marking a historical breakthrough for the university in this competition track. Students have also won honors such as Jiangsu Provincial Outstanding Graduation Thesis Team and Outstanding Graduation Thesis, Special Prize in Provincial Competition and Third Prize in National Competition for National College Students’ Red Tourism Creative Planning Competition, First Prize in National College Students’ Language Competence Competition, and First Prize in National College Students’ Advertising Art Competition.
The School consistently implements the fundamental task of moral education and talent cultivation, adhering to the applied talent training philosophy of “high moral standards, strong theoretical foundation, and comprehensive technical skills”. Great emphasis is placed on practical teaching and academic development planning. Over the past 5 years, the School has established 33 employment internship bases, with more than 120 students successfully admitted to graduate programs at renowned universities domestically and abroad, and over 50 graduates successfully passing civil service examinations and securing positions in public institutions and Schools.
The School is currently promoting high-quality development through “advancing breakthrough achievements in landmark teaching and research outcomes”. It comprehensively implements the university’s “14th Five-Year” development plan, firmly adheres to the teaching-centered concept, aims to cultivate outstanding talents, and strives to achieve new accomplishments in education, teaching, disciplines, and research.
