The School of Information Engineering was established in 2008. In 2021, the school jointly established the Huawei Information and Network Technology Academy with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., and in the same year, collaborated with Yannan High-tech Zone to establish the Xifu River Artificial Intelligence Institute and its Industrial Research Institute.
The school currently has Information and Communication Engineering as a key provincial discipline under Jiangsu’s “14th Five-Year Plan” and offers a master’s degree program in Electronic Information, covering research areas including artificial intelligence, computer technology, communication technology, new-generation electronic information technology, and automatic control technology. Undergraduate programs include Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, and Internet of Things Engineering. Among these, Electronic Information Engineering has been selected as a State-Level First Class Undergraduate Professional Major and approved as an Industry-Education Integration Brand Major in Jiangsu Province; Computer Science and Technology has been approved as a First Class Undergraduate Major in Jiangsu Province.
The school houses several research institutions, including the Jiangsu Provincial Research Platform for Multi-source Information Intelligent Perception and Processing Key Technology, Yancheng City Fiber Optic Sensing and Application Engineering Technology Research Center, Institute of Optoelectronic Information Technology, Institute of Software Application Technology, and Institute of Multi-source Information Intelligent Processing Technology. Research focuses on four main directions: pattern recognition and intelligent information processing, information security, information system architecture, and sensor technology applications. In the past five years, the school has undertaken over 20 vertical projects including National Natural Science Foundation and Jiangsu Province Natural Science Foundation projects, received horizontal funding of over 50 million yuan, published over 100 high-level papers, authored more than 10 academic monographs, obtained 50 patents, generated economic benefits of over 5 million yuan from achievement transformation, and won 5 provincial-level awards.
The school currently has 84 faculty members, including 10 full professors, 30 associate professors, 32 teachers with doctoral degrees, and 18 master’s degree supervisors. It has 2 members in Jiangsu’s “333 Project”, 5 young academic leaders and outstanding young backbone teachers in the provincial “Blue Project”, 1 outstanding teaching team, 5 members in the provincial “Double Innovation Plan”, and 4 recipients of the provincial “Six Talent Peak” high-level talent project funding.
The school maintains talent cultivation as its fundamental task and continuously deepens educational reform. In the past five years, it has won multiple awards in Jiangsu Province micro-course competitions, led over 20 provincial and ministerial-level educational reform projects, including those from the Jiangsu Provincial Higher Education, Teaching Guidance Committee and MOE Industry-University Cooperation Talent Training Project, guided over 20 provincial-level student innovation training projects, and won various outstanding thesis awards. Students have achieved excellent results in provincial and national academic competitions, including first prizes in National Mathematical Modeling Contest for College Students, National Intelligent Car Competition, and National Computer Design Competition, accumulating 9 national awards and over 50 provincial-level awards.
In addition, the school actively leverages the outcomes of industry-education integration to support student innovation and entrepreneurship training programs. By guiding students through innovative entrepreneurship education courses, projects, competitions, and practical training, it encourages them to engage in entrepreneurial activities. Students have won nearly 40 awards in competitions such as the “Internet Plus” College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the “Challenge Cup” National College Students Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, the “Creating Youth” College Students Entrepreneurship Competition, and the Huawei China College Students ICT Competition, resulting in over 50 high-level papers and patents. The undergraduate further education rate exceeds 25%, with an employment rate of 98%.
The school’s Electronic Information and Computer Science disciplines align with the national strategy for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta and the “14th Five-Year” technology innovation plan for Jiangsu Province and Yancheng City. Focusing on new-generation information technology industries such as electronic information, networking and communication, and artificial intelligence, the school aims to enhance the distinctiveness of its disciplines and improve the quality of talent cultivation. This approach seeks to elevate the overall level and quality of discipline construction, promote cross-disciplinary collaborative innovation, and foster a new model of multidisciplinary development, thereby training high-level applied engineering and technical talents for the regional development of industries like electronic information and artificial intelligence.
The school collaborates closely with Yancheng National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., and Likai Precision Technology (Yancheng) Co., Ltd. to establish a sustainable mechanism for industry-education integration, creating a tightly coordinated ecosystem for talent cultivation involving government, academia, and industry. By closely connecting with the information technology industry in the Yangtze River Delta and Jiangsu region, the school integrates knowledge related to artificial intelligence, electronic information, and computer technology into its curriculum, forming a talent cultivation model characterized by “competency-oriented, cross-disciplinary integration”. The school also emphasizes the spirit of the New Fourth Army’s Iron Army in its professional development, incorporating this ethos into course instruction to cultivate high-quality information technology talents who are “especially hardworking, resilient, and dedicated”.
