The School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering and the School of Emergency Management & Safety Engineering (co-located) at Yancheng Institute of Technology were formerly majors of Inorganic Chemical Engineering of Yancheng Industrial College, which was founded in 1959. It was suspended in 1962 due to national economic difficulties and resumed in 1978. In 1997, major of Chemical Engineering & Technology admitted its first undergraduate students, and in 2000 major of Applied Chemistry admitted its first undergraduate students. In 2004, Chemical Engineering and Ocean Engineering Departments merged to form the School of Chemistry & Biological Engineering, and in 2006 the major of Pharmaceutical Engineering admitted its first undergraduate students. In 2015, the School of Chemistry & Biological Engineering was split into the School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering and College of Marine and Bioengineering. In 2020, the School of Emergency Management & Safety Engineering was established. The School currently offers six majors, inculding chemical engineering and technology, pharmaceutical engineering, applied chemistry, chemical safety engineering, emergency technology and management, and energy chemistry. Discipline of chemistry ranks among the top 1% in the world in ESI rankings, while discipline of chemical engineering & technology is a first-level authorization point of master’s degree program and a key discipline ranked Class B in Jiangsu Province. Major of Chemical Engineering & Technology is a construction point of the national first-class majors, passed China Engineering Education Accreditation in 2018, and is a provincial-level brand major integrating industry and education. The major of pharmaceutical engineering is also a construction point of national first-class majors that passed China Engineering Education Accreditation in 2021. The School has one provincial-level key emergency management college construction site, two provincial-level engineering research centers, and two national first-class undergraduate courses.
